Like the Afshari, the Qashqa'i, a nomadic tribe living in the Fars area,have a Turkic ancestry.
As a general rule, Qashqa'i carpets posses clear and vibrant colors.
Most of the rugs made by the nomadic or semi-nomadic tribes are small, e.g. 1.50x2.20m
Fars area carpets have a large design repertorie.
The pile of almost all Fars area rugs is of wool.

Tabriz and Heriz

Tabriz, capital of the north western Iranian province of Azerbaijan, has for centuries enjoyed a great reputation as a center of Oriental culture.
Dark red and powerful blue predominate, with ivory as in contrasting color..
Large variations, up to 12 sq. and above.
The typical Tabriz is a medallion carpet of baroque style appealingto the European taste in art.
Wool, generally clipped short to medium high,occasionally silk. Thewool is somewhat dull, as is most obtained in Azerbaijan.

Bijar and Khashan

When one speaks of top quality Persian carpets, the names of Kashan lies halfway along a line drawn north form Isfahan towards Tehran.
Clear blue or Red shades as well as beige and ivory are used for the field.
All sizes, especially from about 1 x 1.50 m upwards. Large pieces of over 12 sq.m are common.
Amongest the many designs are found the majority of Persian floral motifs,including arabesques and flower-stems
Very good quality wool, often obtained from Kermanshah.

Isfahan and kashan

In the heyday of the city under Shah Abbas the Great, in the 16th and 17th centuries, Isfahan was a paradise of art and beauty.
The overall color effect of the new Isfahans is pale, beige or light blue.
